midweek confessions

- For some reason my car had zero tint when I bought it. Usually you have something from the factory but my car had zilch. This meant my car got a million degrees in the summer. In an effort to beat the heat just a little bit, I had my windows tinted last Saturday. When I dropped my car off the tint guy said he would have to remove any stickers from the inside of my window. I told him I had one "University of South Carolina" sticker and that I didn't mind it being removed. It wasn't until I got home later that I noticed my USC sticker was still there! I was apparently the last appointment of the day because when we called no one answered. Monday finally came and I called up the shop. The conversation went a little something like this:

"Hey, this is Jessie. I brought my car in on Saturday to get my windows tinted and I noticed my USC sticker is still on the window."
"Oh yeah, I remember your car. I thought you liked the sticker so we put it back"
"Um... :: awkward pause :: I like it but not forever! I will eventually want to take it off...."
" :: silence :: You can take it off whenever you want."
"How can I take it off? Isn't laminated to the window?! I don't want to mess anything up."
"It's on the outside of the tint."
"So I won't mess up the tint when I try to scrap it off?"
" :: most.awkward.silence.ever ::  No, the window will be fine."
"OK, well if you're sure .. thanks! Bye!"
So then I hang up because I feel SO JUDGED and I think this entire conversation is legit. I mean, who re-sticks a sticker to a window? You usually have to razor that stuff off! So I went outside to look because I just didn't believe it. I climbed in the back seat and reached for the sticker, only to discover IT'S A FREAKING STATIC CLING-ON STICKER! :: smacks forehead :: I felt like SUCH an idiot.  I was probably the story they told their friends about!  The one that starts like "You will NOT believe what happened at work today...."

- My friend Lea has a blog called Buck Buck Goose. It's super cute and a great way for me to keep up with the comings and goings of our Colorado friends. Lea is a Pediatric PA so she has a ton of knowledge to share about the littlest ones among us. She recently started a series called Medical Mondays where she highlights certain hot topics and gives advice for parents. Here's my confession: I LOVE these posts and I don't miss a single one. I am sure there are several committed followers out there so that is not the problem .. the problem is that THIS follower has no kids. Soooo I end up just learning a bunch of extraneous information that I can't apply. Nice. Hopefully it will one day come in handy but in the meantime I will just be that girl...

- Mark and I decided we needed a vacation so we are taking advantage of some familial connections and going up to the mountains this weekend. Mark is really looking forward to this trip (maybe he needs a break worse than I thought) and has taken it upon himself to plan out our entire weekend. I am usually the planner in the family so the fact that he has voluntarily done this makes me SO happy. I don't have to worry about a thing .. I just need to be packed and in the car. Now THAT'S a vacation. :)

- Since I read so much I have decided to begin a quarterly book review and giveaway and I am really excited about it! I just posted it yesterday and I already have several people signed up .. SO .. if you want a free book then check it out! The winner will be announced Friday, April 13th!

So what are YOU confessing this week?

midweek confessions

~ I had to go to the dentist yesterday and get a couple fillings.  This leads to a few confessions:

My ego took a HUGE hit when I was told a had cavities.  I felt like I had disappointed my dentist or something.  I know  .. weird but true.

Due to being a redhead, I have a high pain tolerance AND a high resistance to certain pain medications. (Apparently, the gene mutation that gave me red hair also messed with my pain receptors or something .. it's true though and pretty common among true gingers.)  We learned the hard way (after a bad car accident in high school) that muscle relaxers and prescription pain killers just don't affect me.  My doctor was prescribing me the highest dose possible and it just wasn't touching the pain.  I guess that's why my resistance is paired with tolerance ... God knew what he was doing.

With all that being said, Novocaine is on the my list of resistant meds.  This made me extremely anxious yesterday when I was getting work done.  Let me put it in perspective .. The average person (according to my dentist) gets administered one vile of Novocain in 2-3 shots.  I required four viles. F-O-U-R. That meant lots of sticks AND I had already mostly fallen out of the anesthesia by the time he finished so, had he gone on longer .. I might have needed more.  I should have still been numb at bedtime last night due to the amount I received .. alas I was back to normal before dinnertime.

Knowing I am that resistant made me anxious.  I do not have any anxiety about the dentist in general .. in fact I LIKE the dentist .. but nerve pain ain't nothing to play with.  I guess my uncomfortableness was obvious because the nurse tech kept asking me if I was ok and I kept saying yes.  She then leaned down and said "then why are you white-knuckling it? Your fingers are purple".  haha yep .. I had clasped my hands so hard in anticipation of pain that I was cutting off the blood supply.  Way to go, Jess.  Good job NOT embarrassing yourself.

~ In other non-dental related news....

I am going to Asheville this weekend with some ladies from my church.  I am expecting to have an amazing weekend due to this.  Asheville is one of my Top 3 favorite cities and the girls from my church are awesome. :)  I'm leaving Friday morning and coming back on Sunday.  I.Can't.Wait.

Since I am leaving Friday, I took the day off work (obviously).  Why do short weeks always feel like the longest!?

So what are YOUR confessions this week?

3.14.2012

midweek confessions

It's been a while since I did this but it is time to get back into the swing of things.  So now it's this week's...

~  There are a few daily reports that I have to process each day.  They all look the same.  I keep them stacked in my drawer or in our vault just in case (once in a blue moon) I have to go back and reference something.  To make my life easier, I use a different highlighter each day so that I can skip through dates faster when digging for a specific report.  All sound normal so far?  Here's the confession part: I coordinate the highlighter I use for the day with what I am wearing. haha that is so embarrassing to write but that's what this is for, right?  So today I am wearing a green cardigan .. and using my lime green highlighter. :)

~ There are certain foods that, for one reason or another, I was convinced I didn't like.  English muffins were on the list. Our tastebuds change as we get older so this might have been true at one point.  Well not any more!  They were on sale a couple weeks ago so I got a pack.  For dinner, we had toasted english muffins with poached eggs and roasted potatoes.  Soo good.  It was a grown-up breakfast and sparked a new found appreciation.  Maybe I should go back and revisit some other foods....

~ I haven't slept well the last two nights.  I get sleepy and go to bed around the normal time but then my mind just wakes up and is racing until about 2:00am.  Yesterday wasn't so bad but today, after two nights in a row, I'm starting to feel it.  The silver lining is this:  my dog always comes in our bedroom and "monitors"  us to make sure we are safe.  About 10 minutes after we turn off the light, I can hear him making one last pass around the house.  It's his doggy version of checking the doors and turning off lights, I suppose.  Well his night-guarding habits means that we are usually asleep before he is.  The past couple of nights though, since I have been awake, I have been able to hear him sleeping and dreaming.  His little whimpers and fake running melt my heart.   I think everyone deserves the opportunity to have a dog.  It really is a blessing.

~ I am pretty good with babies.  They like me and I like them.  They let me hold them, coo them, and rock them to sleep.  I would feel confident about this except Mark is the freaking Baby Whisperer.  The man (and his father) have some gene mutation that makes them irresistible to babies.  He eats it up!  Of course it is one of the million reasons I fell in love with him but STILL!?  I feel that as a girl I should somehow have this "one up" on him but I don't.  The reason I bring this up is that we are (finally!!) meeting our niece next month.  We are fully prepared to spoil that child rotten.  The problem is that I have this inkling that she is going to like Mark so much more than me.  And that makes me jealous.  Silly and jealous.

~ This really isn't a confession but I thought I would share.  I'm eating Stoneyfield's Honey Fig Greek Yogurt right now for breakfast and it is sooo good. Once again, it was on sale 10/$10 and I had never tried their brand. You should go get some.

midweek confessions

I love to cook.
I love to cook things that I have never made before.
Since we are adventurous eaters and I get bored easily, this means that I cook new dishes all the time. I have people often ask me “What are some typical meals that you make?”. This should be a fairly easy question to answer yet I am always left stumped. Every week I sit down and plan my meals/create my grocery list. I’m always pinning/googling new recipes and so therefore I have a seemingly unending supply that I rifle through. This means that I very rarely repeat meals. Since it is hard for me to keep track I try to use the HWE platform as a sort of online cookbook by documenting the ones that we really liked because otherwise I would never remember them.

With the previous confession in mind … I am so used to cooking new recipes for just Mark and myself that I tend to cook brand new recipes when guests come over because that’s “normal” for me. Welllllll I may be a good cook but that doesn’t mean I always find success. Sometimes a recipe just isn’t quality… and it seems like I always make those when people come over .. which leaves me scrambling to save dishes at the last minute. Guests might be none the wiser because the end result is ok .. but I know it could have been better.

With THAT previous confession in mind … we recently had my birthday party at my house and I cooked for everyone. I wanted to make tortilla soup so I went online and started searching. I found a crockpot tortilla soup that seemed pretty decent. I figured using the crockpot would be great because that would free me up to finish chores and then mingle once guests arrived. Guest were supposed to start showing up at 6:00pm. At 4:45pm (amidst a slew of last minute chores I hadn't counted on) I decided to taste-test the soup. B-L-E-C-H! It was inedible. Often times a dish is just not as amazing as a thought but still good. Nope. Not this. It was gross. So with about an hour until guests arrived, I had a hot crockpot full of a ruined dinner. I decided I would just have to come up with a Plan B fast and ran to the store to find SOMETHING to throw together for 10-15 people expecting dinner. I ended up finding a dry soup base mix for tortilla soup. Six dollars later and with 5 minutes to spare I had dinner ready.

What did I do with the piping hot soup that I couldn’t throw in the trash because it was a whole bunch of chunky piping hot liquid, but couldn’t put down the garbage disposal because it was a whole bunch of chunky piping hot liquid?? I stuck the whole thing in the oven. Yep. I hid the ruined dish and some other random dirty dishes in the oven and just hoped no one looked in there because I didn’t have the time between the last minute grocery store run, last minute cleaning and showering/getting ready to actually do the dishes.

So see? I may be a clean freak and an über planner but I can guarantee that sometimes it’s just a façade. I feel like this entire month has been like this.  I have only blogged 6 times this month and usually I would have approximately 20 posts by now.  Maybe it's time management or maybe I really do have more on my plate.  I'm not sure.  Either way, I haven't abandoned my little bloggy home and I will really try to get back to the daily grind.  It just might take me another week or so.  Thanks for hanging in there with me!  You guys are the best ;)

Have you guys hidden any flaws in your oven lately? Any dishes that went awry? Any dishes that were awesome and you want to pass along? I would love to hear from you!

midweek confessions

~ Remember how I mentioned a few weeks ago that I wanted to start waking up earlier?  And then do you remember me mentioning it was a big FAIL because I was trying to wake up at 6:15 which is after Mark leaves for work?  Turns out 5:45 is the key.  Ironically, if I wake up 30 minutes sooner.. it's MUCH easier.  I know the reason and it's because of how I function.  I am a morning person in the sense that once I wake up I am awake for good.  The biggest hurdle for me is actually sitting up and not rolling over.  By forcing myself out of bed when Mark's alarm clock goes off and onto the couch .. it guarantees that I will stay awake.  Then, by the time Mark is leaving for work, I am wide awake.  After that .. working out is a breeze because there is no reason NOT to.  I still haven't broken the 2-week mark so I'm not home free yet.  If I can manage to keep consistent then I will be good to go.  Here's to hoping..

~ My birthday was on Saturday.  I love my birthday and I love getting older.  I think I am one of the few that is excited by the idea.  I think I am looking forward to the big 3-0 like most people look forward to 21.  Even though it's given me a ton to think about, I know this will be an awesome year.  I can't wait.
~ I'm a little anti-Valentine's Day.  Is that bad?  (No offense to those people that love the roses, chocolate and hoopla ..)  I don't know how I originally got the bad taste in my mouth.  I always got my fair share of classroom valentine's and then went on dates once I became older.  I think it's just when I realized what love truly meant to me, I realized Valentine's Day, a day when I feel forced to proclaim my feelings in a very specific way, felt fake.
I want to tell you how much I love you because it's Tuesday .. because I can .. because you deserve to know that you were on my mind and I needed to share. And NOT because the calendar comes with a heart icon on this day .. everyone else is getting presents so I feel obligated to keep up .. or because it's required in any way.  That may sound pessimistic but it's how I feel.  It also seems entirely unfair that all the pressure is on the guys.  What about the girls?  Shouldn't men feel loved, too?  If you are my friend or family and you are reading this .. know that I love you.  I love you every day of the year.  Not just because I am told to.
~ On a little lighter note .. my work did celebrate V-Day by having everyone bring food to share.  I tasted the fondue and chips and fruit.  It was all delicious.  Then I spotted a crockpot full of cheesy goodness.  It had what looked like hot sauce floating through it.  In my mind I thought "spicy cheese dip!" and dug right in.  It wasn't until halfway through that someone pointed out to me that it was Buffalo Chicken Dip.  Oops.  I only had a few tablespoons of it left .. and you know what?  I ate it and I don't regret it.  A little bit won't kill me and it was SO good.  I don't miss meat (except sometimes bacon .. just saying) but man that particular flavor can not found elsewhere. yum yum!

~ When I get really animated I talk so fast that sometimes I get out of breath. haha. Seriously.  This happens most often when I talk to one of my friends at work, Allie.  She talks fast too but not like me.  Well, actually, maybe she does but she sounds normal-paced to me.  The thing is that, in my head, I say everything clearly so when people make me repeat myself it takes me a second to realize why.  I think everyone around me has gotten so good at decoding what I say that I just don't pay attention.  Mark has had to ask me to repeat myself a lot lately and THAT is bad.  He practically knows what I say before I say it so if he can't figure it out .. I'm in trouble.  I should probably start to work on that ...

Do you wake up early and work out?  Did you celebrate Valentine's and think I'm just a big Scrooge? Has the holiday had you eating things you normally avoid?  Are you a fast talker or have some other habit you need to work on?  Let me know so I can feel a little bit more normal ;)

2.14.2012

27

I turned 27 three days ago. I think I am still absorbing what that means. With that being said, it's not the actual age that is giving me pause. I think I am one of the few girls that actually loves getting older. It's more about what comes with said age.

When I was younger I came up with an estimated timeline of my life. It's one of those far-fetched things that I am sure a lot of people do. It's the "by the time I'm __ I will be ___" schedule that you compare your life with to see if you're "on track" or not. This can be both a good and bad thing. It can be good because it can fuel your dreams and push you to achieve goals. It can be bad because those dreams and goals were set at an age when you most likely didn't know what went into making them happen.

I have been blessed. Aside from only one or two aspects .. my life is "right on track". School, work, marriage, etc all happened when I expected. It may not have turned out exactly how I originally planned but the timing was nevertheless perfect. I have spent a few years now floating along with no big adjustments on the horizon. It's been more about maintenance and fine-tuning. Well, things are about to change.

I know I've shared my baby fever with you .. frequently. My want ebbs and flows. There are days when it's all I can think about and there are days when I am shouting praises that I am child-free. This will probably never change. The main factor is though that we want kids and I have always planned to have my first one at 28. That's what this monologue boils down to. Considering the 40 week delay and my crazy math ... instead of having a year left .. I feel like I have 2 months left.  Twenty-eight feels a lot closer than it used to.

Are we going to plan a family based on my own neurotic schedule for my life? Absolutely not. I'm not THAT crazy ;)  It's just that all the other goals have come and gone fairly effortlessly and this is the first one that really has me taking a step back, taking a deep breath, and looking at the bigger picture. Who knows what will happen and when. Maybe this is the point at which the path splits. Maybe not. It's just a whole lotta food for thought .. and I'm stuffed.

2.01.2012

midweek confessions

~ "Operation: Wake up earlier and exercise" is a FAIL.  I started a week ago and officially only managed to wake up early on Wednesday, Thursday and yesterday.  I did, however, exercise 5 of the 7 days so that's something.  Once I am up then the rest is easy.  It's just motivating myself to get out of bed because I know I could sleep in for another hour and a half (if I push it).  The first two weeks are the hardest (I remember that from last time) so I need to just man up and do it.  Last time I did this I got up at 5:45 with Mark and that was my motivation .. to be up when he was and be able to say bye.  This time around I have been attempting to get up at 6:15 (right as he leaves) but once that happens the house is quiet and sleepy.  I think I may need to push my alarm back 30 minutes to get me through the first couple of weeks and then I can adjust once I get it under control.  As per usual .. you will be updated ;)

~ Sometimes I struggle with inadequacy.  It comes upon me every once in a while and seems to color everything.  It's my own personal cloud cover.  I can usually get a grasp on it and kick it out the door but it nevertheless comes back.  It came back for about 3 days before I realized what was going on and pulled myself together.  It's not that I feel inadequate in a certain area of my life .. it affects everything.  I just see how I can be better in so many ways and I play the "compare" game.  The reason I am bringing this up now is because Mark made an innocent joke (one in which we've made a million times) and I took it the wrong way and burst into tears.  That was the big fat clue that I need to self-check and find out what was going on.  Needless to say I gave myself an attitude adjustment, notified Mark what was really going on and moved on.  I'm sure this happens to others and I hate it.  I wish I could rid myself of those thoughts forever.  Just another foothold...

~ I'm a reader.  A big reader.  I average about 100 books a year (and yes I keep count).  My mom is a reader, too.  I think it's genetic.  I read a little bit of everything but I mostly camp in fiction.  I try to cover the classics, the bestsellers, and everything in between.  I have standards though and I admit to sometimes being quick to generalizations.  I have excluded an author's entire collections of works out of "principle".  It's not fair and it certainly means I sometimes fail at the whole not-being-narrow-minded thing.  An example of a couple of these authors are Nicholas Sparks and Nora Roberts.

Nicholas Sparks is on the list because I feel like it's overly sappy, it's this "perfect love" and then someone goes and dies in the end from cancer or whatever.  I read for enjoyment so why would I want to sit around and cry reading his books?  No thanks.  Nora Roberts is on the list because I thought she was the one with Fabio on the front and everyone is from the 18th century and sex-obsessed. Ugh.

My mom read Nora Roberts (and the like) growing up.  I thought I would never read "crap" like that (sorry Mom!).  I wanted to read real books.  Wellllll I eventually caved and I read one of her books...just to see what it was like.  What is it like?  It's like a cozy blanket.  It's the book version of a contented sigh.  It's effortless and comforting.  I have no idea why but I just love her.  I always end up throwing in a couple of her books (or a series) each year.  It's happy ever afters and they just make me smile.

I know it's silly but at almost 27 I feel way too young to be reading Nora (even though that's the general age of her characters).  I always stereotyped her for the 50+ set.  I've kept our relationship a secret long enough .. so here I am .. claiming my adoration.  I still hold my grudge against Sparks and his followers.  I have yet to drink that Kool-aid.  Maybe one day .. maybe not.

1.25.2012

midweek confessions

- One of my New Year's resolutions was to get healthy.  I've been working on this in different ways and this morning I added another layer to it.  This is sort of a two part confession.  The first part is that I got up at 6:15am this morning. Here's the back story .. Mark gets up at 5:45am everyday for work.  For a couple years I got up with him.  He would leave for work a few minutes after 6:00am and I would watch the news, complete some chores, etc.  I didn't have to be at work until 8:00 but it was a great start to the day.  When I transferred to a different department in my company, my work day was moved back to 8:30.  For some reason that 30 minutes made me think "huh, I should sleep in.." and it all went down hill from there.  Mark and I are "on time" people.  We like to be punctual.  With that being said, ever since I started sleeping in my mornings have been a mess and I have been 5 minutes late almost every day!  It's not necessarily a big deal since it's only 5 minutes but it has bothered me and people lightheartedly pick on me for it.  Not this morning!  I woke up with Mark and got out of bed a little after he left.  I feel amazing and I am going to try to keep this up and get back to my old schedule.  Last time I remember it being no fun for a week or so but once my body got used to it then it was a piece of cake.  I just need to make it through the first two weeks and then I will be back on track.

- The second half of that confession is that I refuse to work out at night.  It just doesn't fit my schedule.  I understand the whole 'sacrifices' thing but I am just not going to force myself into a routine that doesn't suit my current family or future family.  Since after work is off limits (aside from walking the dog which barely counts) I need to exercise in the morning.  What better time to do it then after I wake up?!  So this morning I did 40 minutes of pilates.  I love pilates.  It just clicks with me and whereas certain other things are discouraging to me (like just jumping on a treadmill and running), pilates is fun!  It also kicks.my.butt.  I have no upper body strength and, in certain moves, my core strength is a joke.  Fixing this is the reason for pilates but man I am going to have to work at it.  Now I just need to come up with some sort of cardio I like as much as pilates..... Any suggestions?
- This confession is sort of in limbo.  Mark was told about an amazing opportunity at work.  It's still up in the air though so that's why it's in limbo.  Basically the opportunity would have him gone on a business trip for up to a month and half overseas.  This makes me so anxious.  I am beyond thrilled for him, and he is really excited, but I am also so nervous.  We have not been apart for more than 2 days in the last 10 years.  Seriously.  We will sometimes part ways for "guy weekend trips" and "girl weekend trips" but nothing more than that and I miss him SO MUCH just after 2 days! So IF this pans out and he does leave .. I am going to have to pull up the big girl panties and get it done.  We will adjust but it will be hard since the time zone differences will have us up at opposite times.  I will keep you updated but prayer that he does get to go would be great!

What are you confessing this week?

1.18.2012

midweek confessions

~ I had Monday off for the holiday and I spent the whole day in bliss while pretending I was a stay-at-home wife/mom.  Of course I had no children to take care of so it wasn't remotely realistic.  Either way, I got to sleep in until 8:45 and spend the whole day cleaning, cooking and being insanely domestic.  I know I would probably get bored with this quickly if it was my real life but a girl can dream, right?

~  We rearranged several rooms in our house and I have spent an exorbitant amount of time just sitting quietly and admiring the change.  Is that a little crazy?

~ I feel like it should be February already.  This has been the longest two weeks ever!  I've never really liked Januarys (err, Januaries?).  February is much better because it houses my birthday (yay!) and our wedding anniversary (double yay!)

~ I bought really expensive laundry detergent to see if it really "cleans better".  I am not sure if it really is cleaning better but it smells amazing and the scent last much longer than the other stuff.  I may or may not have washed clean clothes just so that they smell good.

~ We just bought a used new car and it made me feel very grown up.  Nevermind I'm married and own a home already .. but buying a car ..

What are your midweek confessions?

1.11.2012

midweek confessions

~  I haven't confessed anything in the last two weeks because I didn't feel like I had anything "good enough".  Somehow it doesn't seem right that I feel the need to apologize for not doing something that compels me to confess.

~ We have an automatic gate at work surrounding our parking lot.  To enter, you swipe your badge.  To exit, you just pull up to the line and it detects your car.  At least twice a week I press my home garage door opener when attempting to exit the parking lot.  Then I look around to see if anyone saw me.

~ I simply do not care at all about politics.  I used to be passionate about it when I was 18 but instead of getting more knowledgeable and more fired up .. I've completely stopped caring.  To me they are all the same.  They may have different sales speeches and packaging but in the end you are getting the same product. Its going to be a long year.

~ I watched "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" and it was really motivating.  I would love to try to do a green juice cleanse.  I would love to detox and see how different I feel.  Mark wants to do it, too.  It wouldn't be for that long and it's totally healthy but I am still a little nervous about failing.

~ I constantly fall prey to the "if only" game.  If only I had done this .. if only I had done that.  I know logically that there is no point dwelling.  There is a saying that "the grass may be greener on the other side but it's because you've stopped watering your own."  I haven't stopped watering my own grass but I may skip a day or two here and there.  I need to put up a privacy fence so that I can't even compare.

What are your midweek confessions?

midweek confessions

~  So I am sure you've read this in my previous post but I figured I would mention it again:  I'm an aunt!!  My niece is perfect and gorgeous and I can't wait to meet her.  Just thought I would remind you ;)

~ A few months ago I felt that Mark and I should start our own small group at church.  I LOVED the group we were in but I felt that season was over.  I found a book fairly quick that I thought would work (based on the synopsis) but now that I have gotten it .. well .. it's terrible.  I kind of feel in limbo right now.  I don't feel like we made the wrong decision by leaving the group but I also don't feel led in the direction of starting something right now.  Also, quite frankly, I'm a little embarrassed too.  People expected us to start a group and now I am unsure.

~ I was so exhausted earlier this week that I let a load of laundry sit in the washer overnight.  I've never done that.  I rewashed them the next day and they were ok.  oops :x

~ I went to a cookie swap party last night and the hostess' house was decorated perfectly for Christmas.  She is an AMAZING hostess (and decorator, chef, etc etc etc).  Well her house reminded me that I haven't really decorated that much for the holiday, nor do I even OWN that much stuff.  Now I realize decorations are one of those things that you accumulate over time but it still kind of makes me pouty that I can't just afford to go out and buy all the little things that I want.  I love my tree though and I do have a wreath on my door and a few other things.  I just need to be patient. (ah, patience.  I ALWAYS have to be patient .. one of these days I'm going to have to get better with that...)

What are your confessions this week?

12.14.2011

midweek confessions: the beginning

I mentioned during my first confession that the idea came from a fellow blogger.  Elizabeth over at E, Myself & I was the source of my inspiration.  She is having a link-up this week and so I wanted to share.  Check her out .. <3

midweek confessions

This is quite theraputic if I do say so myself ...

- Last Friday we simply stayed at home.  Mark watched a movie and I caught up on blogs, facebook (since my app refuses to show me messages and such), etc.  It may sound boring but it was the best Friday in a while!

- I hate grocery shopping alone.  Mark and I always go together.  I know we won't always be able to do this (with the addition of kids and such) but I really like that time together.  Mark was out of town on Saturday and I had to go alone. It wasn't much fun.  There was no one to joke with and make decisions with.

- I have been blessed with a spouse that I agree with 99.99% of the time.  We never argue.  We just simply get along.  If we ever do disagree then it's usually resolved really quickly because we would both rather just compromise then "be right".  With that being said .. it's not always perfect.  Example?  My husband is an overly-aggressive driver (my opinion) and it makes me C.R.A.Z.Y.  This is something recently (in the last year or so) that has really started to grate on my nerves.  I'm trying to keep things in perspective but I take it personally sometimes when I ask him to slow down and then he goes THE EXACT SPEEDLIMIT out of spite.  I'm confessing this now because we argued about it on Sunday.  He basically hurt my feelings and then we just didn't talk for the 5 minutes it took us to get to where we were going.  That doesn't sound bad but it certainly isn't constructive and we need to figure this out.  I NEVER want to be "that wife" that nags all the time and he just doesn't take me seriously which hurts my feelings a lot.  we'll figure it out...

- On a lighter note .. I am totally obsessed with grey nail polish right now.  I keep thinking I need to move on to a different color or something but I keep wanting to go back to it.  I think it's the perfect winter shade.  Not too harsh like black but more neutral and interesting than nude.  Love it!

- Finally .. my neice is due Friday and I may or may not be SO FREAKING EXCITED.  I am trying really hard to leave her parents alone and not smother.  I've really kept my distance because I know they have (obviously!) a lot on their plate right now with their first-born on the way but I can't help to want to quiz them about everything (since I can't be there).  also .. I might be a tad jealous. stupid baby fever...

midweek confessions

And we're back this week with more confessions..

~ I get really annoyed when I have to answer the phone at work sometimes.  Did I mention it's one of my main responsibilites?  I manage multiple products at work.  It's my job to help troubleshoot and problem-solve whenever I get a call about any of them. I mostly speak to other employees most of the time and the customer every now and again.  Right now I am in the middle of building a new product and I wish I could only focus on that.  When I get a call not related to the new product I get totally annoyed. I need to change my attitude.  I need to be joyful in helping everyone equally.. but right now I'm so not..

The waiting game isn't getting easier.  I'm still struggling with patience waiting for my review despite positive reinforcement.  It's 3 months late now.  Sigh.

There were dirty dishes that sat in my sink overnight on Monday. I like people to think that I have it all together and my house is always clean.  It's not.  If you had come over Tuesday you would have seen the evidence.
~ My dog is out of shape and it's my fault.  Since he is at his ideal weight I let myself pretend to not notice.  Unfortunately he gets winded way too quickly when running.  We both need to hit the pavement more.

~ Sometimes if I really need to work/reason something out I will talk it out .. out loud .. to myself.  If I am not at home alone then I will do it in my car because people watching me think I am just singing to the radio.  And no .. I don't answer myself ;)  I'm not crazy .. promise!

So what are your midweek confessions?

midweek confessions

A blogger I follow does midweek confessions.  I love the idea so I thought I might try it so here we go...

1.  I feel guilty that I haven't been blogging more.  I know I have posted stuff but it's kind of been a cop out.  Recipes and book reviews just don't count the same as a more "self-reflective" type post.

2.  I am supposed to have a review at work and I am not waiting patiently.  There have been a lot of work load changes lately and I really want to have my review so I know whether all my hard work as paid off.  I know I am being vague but I don't know who reads this so I need to stay quiet for now.

3.  I bought 'Jesus Calling' and I have not been reading it daily .. more like every 2 or 3 days.  And no, I don't have a valid excuse.  I simply haven't made the time.  I feel really bad about this.

4.  I had the energy to decorate my tree but it ran out before I snapped a picture.  I wanted to do a post to show you my tree (and it will happen .. eventually) but as I sit on my couch at night and look at it .. I just can't seem to muster the energy to take the pics and download them .. yet other chores get done.  What in the world!?

5.  Baby fever is back. I thought I had it under control.  I don't.  Enough said.

So hopefully I will start making this a weekly thing .. maybe.  I don't want to commit so we will just see how it goes :)  What are some of your midweek confessions?
